Eld. Allen House, II founded the New Zion Pentecostal Church in 1979.  The first services were held in the gymnasium of the Pilot Street Recreational Center. In 1981, the church moved to a new location. The church grew steadily.

In 1988, New Zion Pentecostal Church joined the Maddocha Fellowship of Pentecostal Churches.  In 1995, a new building was built that holds 2,000 people. When the new church was dedicated, the church was renamed, Greater New Zion Pentecostal Church.

The pastor, Eld. House was a very progressive pastor.  He allowed many forms of praise and worship styles to go forth in the church. He was among the first pastors to allow praise dancers in the services. There were all kinds of talents being used at New Zion.

Greater New Zion is still a place of progressive praise. The church's instrumental praise band, Power of Praise, is a very popular group in the state. The band is headed by Power Franklin.
